Glossary

Plain-English definitions of Entroid and the AI, data, governance and operations terms used across the site.

Platform

Entroid#
A unified enterprise platform that brings an organisation’s applications, data and knowledge onto one governed foundation, with AI able to reason and act across every function.
Semantic Ontology (SEOM)#
The shared model of the enterprise — its objects, their properties, states and relationships — defined once so every module and AI agent works from the same meaning of the business.
Governed AI Core#
The intelligence at the centre of the platform that reasons on enterprise context and can take action, but only within defined, auditable controls.
Unified Enterprise Platform#
A single platform on which every business function runs, sharing common services and one source of enterprise knowledge instead of separate systems stitched together.
AI Foundry#
The environment for building, orchestrating and operating the platform’s AI — its agents, models and forecasting.
Command Center#
The platform’s reasoning hub, where AI observes signals across the enterprise, explains what is happening and drives closed-loop action.
Sherlock#
The platform’s automated root-cause analysis, which finds why an issue occurred and runs the corrective procedure.
Sentinel#
The platform’s AI incident capability, which detects, investigates and remediates incidents across connected systems.
Marketplace#
A governed catalog where products, AI agents and solution blueprints are published, discovered and subscribed to.
Module#
A single business capability delivered on the platform (for example Procurement or General Ledger), sharing the same data, services and governance as every other module.
Space#
A group of related modules that together cover a business function, such as Finance, Supply Chain or Customers.

AI & Agents

Agent#
A software worker that carries out a task on the platform, able to make decisions and take actions rather than only answer questions.
Autonomous Agent#
An agent that executes work end to end without step-by-step human direction, within governed limits.
Conversational Agent#
An agent that works through natural-language dialogue, answering questions and completing tasks in plain language.
Agentic AI#
AI that pursues a goal by planning and taking actions, not just generating text or recommendations.
Large Language Model (LLM)#
An AI model trained on large amounts of text that generates and interprets natural language; the reasoning engine behind conversational and generative AI.
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)#
A technique where an AI model retrieves relevant enterprise information before answering, so responses are grounded in real data rather than the model’s memory.
Grounding#
Tying an AI response or action to verified enterprise data and context, reducing guesswork and error.
Hallucination#
A confident but incorrect or fabricated AI output, produced when a model answers without grounding in real data.
Guardrail#
A rule or boundary that constrains what an AI system is allowed to say or do.
Inline Gate#
A control placed directly in the path of an action, so a required check must pass before the action can execute — rather than detecting the problem afterwards.
Human-in-the-Loop (HITL)#
A design in which a person reviews or approves an AI decision before it takes effect.
Orchestration#
Coordinating multiple agents, models or systems so they work together toward one outcome.
Inference#
The act of an AI model producing an output — a prediction or answer — from a given input.
Forecasting#
Using historical data to predict future values, such as demand, cost or risk.
Vision AI#
AI that interprets images or video, for example to read documents or monitor a physical site.
Machine Learning (ML)#
A branch of AI in which models learn patterns from data to make predictions or decisions.

Data & Knowledge

Ontology#
A formal description of the concepts in a domain and how they relate. On the platform, the shared enterprise ontology gives every module one definition of the business.
Knowledge Graph#
A network of enterprise entities and the relationships between them, used to connect information and give AI trustworthy context.
Semantic Layer#
A consistent, business-friendly definition of data over raw systems, so terms like “customer” or “revenue” mean the same thing everywhere.
Data Lineage#
The traceable record of where data came from and how it changed as it moved through systems.
Master Data#
The single authoritative record for a core business entity — such as a customer, vendor or material — shared across the enterprise.
Source of Truth#
The one system or record treated as authoritative for a given piece of information.
Impact Analysis#
Seeing, before a change is made, every downstream object and process the change would affect.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

Governance#
The framework of policies, roles and controls that directs and constrains how an enterprise operates and makes decisions.
GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance)#
The combined discipline of governing the enterprise, managing its risks and meeting its obligations.
Compliance#
Meeting the laws, regulations and internal policies that apply to the business, and being able to prove it.
Audit Trail#
A complete, tamper-evident record of who did what, when, and under what authority.
Explainability#
The ability to show why an AI system or process reached a decision, in terms a person or regulator can follow.
Delegation of Authority#
The formal assignment of who may approve or execute a given decision, up to defined limits.
Three Lines of Defense#
A risk-governance model separating those who own risk, those who oversee it, and those who independently assure it.
SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley)#
A regulation requiring companies to maintain and prove effective financial controls.
Risk Register#
A maintained list of the risks facing the enterprise, with their likelihood, impact and mitigation.
Attestation#
A formal sign-off confirming that a control was performed or a statement is accurate.
Policy-as-Code#
Expressing governance rules as machine-executable code so they are enforced automatically rather than checked by hand.
Control#
A rule or step that prevents, detects or corrects an error or risk in a process.

Security

DevSecOps#
Building security into software delivery from the start, rather than adding it at the end.
SIEM (Security Information & Event Management)#
Technology that collects and analyses security signals across systems to detect threats.
SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation & Response)#
Technology that automates the investigation of and response to security incidents.
SBOM (Software Bill of Materials)#
A complete inventory of the components inside a piece of software, used to manage vulnerabilities.
Endpoint#
A device such as a laptop, server or phone that connects to the enterprise network.
Remediation#
The action taken to fix an incident, vulnerability or control failure.

Operations

AIOps#
The use of AI to run IT operations — detecting, diagnosing and resolving issues across systems.
MTTR (Mean Time to Resolution)#
The average time to resolve an incident, from detection to confirmed fix. A core measure of operations performance.
MTTD (Mean Time to Detect)#
The average time taken to notice that an incident has occurred.
SLA (Service-Level Agreement)#
A committed standard for a service, such as response time or availability.
Incident#
An unplanned disruption or degradation of a service.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)#
Determining the underlying reason an incident occurred, not just its symptoms.
CMDB (Configuration Management Database)#
A record of IT assets and how they relate — often a static snapshot rather than the live system.
Runbook#
A defined procedure for handling a specific operational task or incident.
Observability#
The ability to understand a system’s internal state from the signals it emits.
Change Management#
The controlled process for making changes to systems so they are reviewed, approved and safe.
FinOps#
The practice of managing and optimising cloud spend as a shared, accountable discipline.

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)#
Core software for running finance, supply chain and operations.
CRM (Customer Relationship Management)#
Software for managing customer relationships, sales and service.
HCM (Human Capital Management)#
Software for managing the workforce — hiring, pay, time and development.
OKR (Objectives & Key Results)#
A goal-setting method linking measurable results to objectives, cascaded across the organisation.
KPI (Key Performance Indicator)#
A metric used to track performance against a goal.
Portfolio#
A managed collection of investments, programs or products, prioritised toward strategy.
Reconciliation#
Checking that two sets of records agree, such as a sub-ledger against the general ledger.
Period-End Close#
The recurring process of finalising the books at the end of a financial period.
Order-to-Cash (O2C)#
The end-to-end process from taking a customer order to collecting payment.
Procure-to-Pay (P2P)#
The end-to-end process from requesting a purchase to paying the supplier.
General Ledger#
The central accounting record of all financial transactions.
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)#
The full cost of running a system — licences, integration and operation — not just its purchase price.
Modernization#
Moving a legacy application onto a current technology stack while preserving its business logic.
